Just what are you waiting for and why are you waiting?

"Just what are you waiting for and why are you waiting?"

This excellent question comes to us straight from the mind of Napoleon Hill.  He is a man who studied success with the same vigor as Tesla studied electricity.  Success comes in many levels and tiers.  So if we look at Mr. Hill's words from the point of view one who is looking for success in the battle over cigarettes and nicotine, allow me to repeat the question, "Just what are you waiting for and why are you waiting?"

What else does Napoleon Hill have to say on this?

"Far too many people spend their entire lives waiting for that glorious day when the perfect opportunity presents itself to them."  Are you waiting for the "right time" to stop smoking?

"Too late, they realize that each day held opportunity for those who sought it out. If you have not formulated a plan for what you would like to accomplish in your life, don’t waste another minute."

FYI, there is no right time to stop.  Actually there is, the time is now.

"When you have Definiteness of Purpose fueled by a burning desire to reach your objectives, nothing can stand in your way."

For many people, they need a purpose greater than them self to motivate them to stop smoking.  There is nothing wrong with that.  Saying something like, 'I won't stop smoking for anyone else, when I stop smoking, it'll be for me.' That's an excuse, not a reason.  Find a purpose greater than you.  Your kids, your spouse, your future kids, your family, your community, your company, whatever the purpose as long as it is bigger than just you.

"Don’t wait around waiting for life to happen to you. When you know what you want and how you expect to earn it, life will agree to your terms, not the other way around."

This is crucial.  For those struggling with addiction, nicotine is happening to you.  Life is happening to you because every time you have a moment, positive or negative, you need to have a cigarette to go with your moment.  And you KNOW what I'm talking about.  So, you can be the cause of your life or the effect of circumstance.  There is no requirement anywhere in the handbook of life that says you are to be a victim.  Take back control of yourself, your body, your mind and spirit.  Stopping smoking is you taking the power back.  You gave it up, maybe not knowingly, but you did.  This is your time, your moment, your opportunity to stand up for yourself, fight and take it all back.

Smoke Your Mind and Napoleon Hill Wisdom

How To Stop Smoking Without Killing AnyoneIn my book, How To Stop Smoking Without Killing Anyone, I talk about one of the motivating factors for me to stop smoking. It came when I realized I was out of control. There comes a time after about 6 and half hours or so without a cigarette when you realize that if you don't have a cigarette and like right now, someone very well might get hurt. Granted I am slightly exaggerating but the nic-fit is real.

It soon began to bother me to be under Big-Tobacco's spell so powerfully. I got started smoking as a way to separate myself from others, to flaunt and solidify my identity. Or at least so I thought. The reality was in no time instead of being the individual I wanted to be I was just like everyone else... hooked. Smoking lost it's romance for me and it was time to kick the habit.

I thought of this moment in my life in late 2001 when I realized smoking wasn't all it's cracked up to be... or rather, it's more like crack than you think. I thought of this moment when I saw this quote from Napoleon Hill

"Control your own mind, and you may never be controlled by the mind of another.

The mind is the most powerful weapon known to man. It simply cannot be controlled or contained by an outside force, however formidable that force may at first appear. Throughout history, tyrants have tried to control those who opposed them, but eventually these rulers discovered the power of the imagination was far greater than the threat of the sword. As Victor Hugo said, "An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come."

Big Tobacco, like any good drug dealer has control of your mind and directs your thoughts towards one more cigarette. It is with this mind, such a powerful weapon indeed, that you will conquer your addiction to nicotine and cigarettes.

Your mind is the best tool for meeting the challenge to stop smoking. You can use a patch, chew the gum, tinker with water vapor cigarettes, and any other nicotine delivery device you can think of, but sooner or later it will boil down to you making a conscious decision with your mind to not light up.

I used my mind to stop smoking and you can to.  In fact, you will have to.  My mission now it to get my book into the hands of 5000 smokers who want to be non smokers.

How To Stop Smoking Without Killing AnyoneSo if you found this blog and you're still smoking, or you think you've quit but feel yourself wavering and loosing control, consider this, I, like you, struggled through the process and found a way to not only stop, but stay stopped.  Perhaps destiny or God brought you here and perhaps you should give this book a read.  I will leave it up to you of course, but deciding to finally stop once and for all could very well be the best decision you've ever made...  next to deciding to get a copy of my book!

Take possession of your own mind...

"...and you may soon make life pay off on your terms.

Your mind is unquestionably your most valuable possession. You may lose every material thing you own, but knowledge can never be taken from you. With it, you can earn a new fortune, build a new home, and buy anything you truly desire. No one else can control your thoughts; even the cruelest tyrant cannot force you to think about something you refuse to accept. When you make a deliberate decision to take control of your mind and feed it positive, constructive thoughts, you are on your way to taking control of your life. The thoughts you allow to dominate your mind will determine what you will get from life.
"

You might even be able to stop smoking!  Once again, applicable wisdom in my in-box from the Napoleon Hill Foundation...

Words of Wisdom from Napoleon Hill

"When the going is hardest, just keep on keeping on, and you’ll get there sooner than someone who finds the going easy.

If you think achieving great heights of success will be easy, you either don't understand at all how the process works or you have your sights set too low. Reaching the top of any field is difficult, time-consuming, and often tedious. The reason it isn't crowded at the top is that most people won't do the things that are necessary to achieve success. They are all too willing to give up when the going gets tough. If you need inspiration to persevere, read the biographies of men and women who have achieved greatness in their lives. You will find that they prevailed because they refused to quit. They continued to toil alone long after the masses had given up and gone home."

This one was in my in-box this morning.  It comes from The Napoleon Hill Foundation's Thought for the Day.  Clearly, I don't need to explain how this applies to kicking the habit...  I'm also, as you'll find out when you read my book, a huge proponent of going cold turkey which makes this quote about success even more relevant.  This also show's how, even though the topic of the book is how to stop smoking, success in ANY endeavor will require you to dig deeper than you thought you'd have to and go farther than you thought you could go.

So, smokers and non-smokers alike, how does this apply to you today?
